Activities:

Caves of Nerja

The caves of Nerja are stalactite caves and were only discovered by chance in 1959 by a group of young people who wanted to hunt bats.

The caves were formed using karst. This is formed when limestone comes into contact with moisture, in this case carbonated rainwater. The caves were formed in the Betisch Massif. The limestone layer formed between 150 and 130 million years ago.

Due to the often heavy rainfall, the limestone was deposited in large quantities, forming the caves.

The cave is definitely worth a visit and one of its most striking features is certainly its enormous size. The cave covers about 5 km and its total area is 35.484 m2. The content of the whole is 64.379 m3.

Only one part of the cave is open to the public. Its area is 14.000 m2 and its length is about 700 meters. For tourists, the route is easy to follow on foot. After descending the stairs you can see the open part in about three quarters of an hour. The first room you enter is the Sala de Belén (Hall of Bethlehem) where there are three stalagmites in which, with some imagination, you can recognize the Epiphany.

Tickets are approximately €17,50 and can be purchased at the venue.

Alhambra (Granada)

Near Granada stands the world-famous Alhambra structure. This ancient fortress is one of the most famous buildings in the world. Today, you can still find buildings in this location that originated in the 13th century. The Red Palace, as the Alhambra is also called, is a unique structure with traces of a long period of European history due to its long history of different cultures and influences. The site has primarily served as a fortress and Palace. You will find traces from the Islamic and Christian worlds. Sometimes styles from both worlds in one object. It should come as no surprise, then, that the Alhambra deserves a listing on Unesco's cultural heritage list.
